My name is Irose.Okodugha,CEO SWEETPOT,I am a Nigerian.I'd like to give this a shot even though I had never done this before, write for a prize *smiles*
September 12th,2012,I gave birth to my brand called "SWEETPOT" Twitter handle @sweetpot2,Facebook; www.Facebook.com/SweetPot.org.
I proceeded to launch my brand "SWEETPOT" that same year,2012 in Abuja,2012.That day,it rained like the universe was against me but I was humbled by all who came out for my event just to have a taste of my meals.Permit me to digress a little, before "SWEETPOT" came into existence I realised I loved to cook ,anyone who visited I made sure I went into the kitchen for them, the smiles I get from people who eat my meals makes me happy,I loved their compliments.
Back to SWEETPOT launch,so it rained and eventually it stopped after 2hrs,there and then I started taking orders even when my launch was ongoing,I remember some persons places orders for about 12(twelve) 3(three) litre bowls of soups..At that time I just began,I was working from home,I placed a deal on an e commerce website and I got over 60(sixty) orders in 3(days).When my customers ordered I'd like to know their preference, plenty pepper? little salt? Olive oil or groundnut oil? Then after they receive their orders I always would call to know if they liked their meals.
We are talking effective way to rethink the relationship between business and society right? *smiles* I need to remind myself before I go on and on about SWEETPOT.
I have learnt to love more, and I have also thought my staff same, treat customers with love the same way I treat you.
I learnt never to assume, never assume your customers know the prices of your services/products,never assume because you are good at what you do whatever you sell to your customers is what they asked for,so my key word is "never assume".
Businesses must learn to ask the society questions on what they want in order to serve them better. The society in which businesses function should be positively impacted on.
Businesses should be kind to their societies ,you don't need to increase price of products/services just because you are most sought after in the society.SweetPot only increased her products by $2 that's about N500 since 2012.
90% of my customers are married women, when I started my business I thought it would be more of bachelors patronizing my business but alas,I was wrong.I developed a strong connection with my customers, some order meals and the next thing we discuss things that made them happy or cause them to worry.I often say this,my customers are family to me.
Businesses should learn to build connections with the people in the society. Not just business connections but understand what people are dealing with and what makes them happy. We could start by knowing the birthdays of our customers.
I realised a customer who ordered our meals everyday stopped ordering,I called to ask how she was doing since we haven't taken her orders for a long time and she said she just put to bed and that she couldn't eat her meals while she was pregnant and so she ordered from us at that time.
In my opinion also,I believe all businesses should have a back end to give back to the society.I believe anyone into business loves to give aside the quest to make money, I love that I have the opportunity to give through my business and I have used SWEETPOT as a platform to reach out to people.
During the time of a bomb blast in Nyanya ,Abuja,2014,we took food to casualties in the hospital. We have fed the less privileged, ongoing is a plan to feed 936(nine hundred and thirty six) internally displaced persons for 7(seven ) days,Dec 1st-7th,2015.
Thank you for this opportunity. #UbuntuPeople
